What is OTN?
Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN) is a ministry of health provided service where we use video cameras and monitors to connect you to doctors who are not located near you, increasing your access to medical care rapidly. You will be able to see, hear and talk to a doctor at your own time.
Telemedicine appointment is just like a regular Appointment; only you will be seeing and speaking to the doctor on a monitor. A telemedicine trained healthcare professional will be with you during your visit. The healthcare professional with you may assist with the examination, using equipment designed for televideoconferencing.
Is there a cost to you?
No. A telemedicine appointment is available to anyone with a valid OHIP Health card. Just like a face-to-face appointment, when using the telemedicine program and your Ontario health card, you give permission to your health care professional to submit a claim to the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP).
Is telemedicine private?
Your telemedicine visit is private and confidential. It can only be seen and heard by the healthcare professionals involved. Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN) uses a variety of physical, administrative and technical methods to protect your personal health information.
